Traditional Eastern Medicine is comprised of a wide array of therapies.  In our clinic, our primary modality is acupuncture, but we utilize herbal therapy, nutritional advice, tui na, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture, and athletic Kinesio® taping.

Acupuncture

Used for thousands of years, acupuncture is the insertion of fine, filiform needles into the body to produce a therapeutic effect.  People use acupuncture for many reasons - chronic & acute pain, women's health, fertility, general wellness, mental & emotional ailments, digestive disorders, athletic performance & rehabilitation, and much more.

Side effects of acupuncture include better sleep, increased energy, better overall mood, and fewer colds & flus.

Nutritional Therapy

What we put into our bodies directly affects our health and wellbeing.  In Chinese Medicine, the energetics of foods can help or damage our health, depending on our natural constitutions.  Nutritional therapy is one of the best tools to alleviate symptoms of most ailments.  We include customized nutritional advice that can help you take care of yourself between treatments.

Tui Na * Gua Sha * Cupping * Moxibustion

Tui Na is a form of therapeutic massage that utilizes the same theory as acupuncture, and is typically used in combination with acupuncture.  It has a wide range of indications, from alleviating post-surgical pain to alleviating colic in an infant.  Tui Na has been used in the East for over 2000 years.

Gua Sha is a therapeutic technique that involves gentle rubbing, or scraping, of the skin to increase blood flow to the area to alleviate a variety of ailments.

Cupping involves the placement of glass cups over large muscle groups.  It stays in place via a vacuum-like suction and may be gently moved.  This is called sliding cupping.  Stationary cupping refers to the technique of leaving the cups in place for a short period of time (~5 min).  The suction of the cups pulls fresh blood to the surface and "flushes out" blood that is no longer in circulation. Cupping has been used for over 2000 years, and has gained popularity in recent years, with Olympic athletes (primarily swimmers) displaying their cupping marks during their performances.

Moxibustion, also known as moxa, is dried mugwort and comes in several different forms, from loose to stick form.  Loose moxa may be placed on the end of the needle, is gently lit and warms the local area.  Stick moxa can be used to warm a more generalized area and is second-to-none to reduce swelling and pain.  Moxa also warms the body at the deepest levels (think of someone who is chronically cold, no matter the external temperature).

Electro Acupuncture

Electro acupuncture (also known as e-stim) is the use of a gentle electric stimulation, similar to a TENS unit, however, e-stim uses tiny alligator clips that attach directly to the ends of the needles.  E-stim has been proven to be effective for many types of pain, as well as stimulating the nervous system by increasing blood flow to nerves (see here:  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2396470/).

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is the collision of the ancient art of acupuncture with the modern day desire to maintain a fresh, youthful look.  This procedure is mostly painless and has all of the benefits of a regular acupuncture treatment.  We treat the root of what is causing premature aging by including a full-body treatment and only using true acupuncture points on the face (as opposed to other procedures that use a wrinkle 'threading' technique).  Most people see results following the first treatment, but for best & longest lasting results, cosmetic acupuncture treatments are scheduled twice per week for five weeks.  This gives the skin enough time to regenerate (cycle of ~27 days) and give you the ultimate glowing skin that will last 3-5 years with biannual maintenance.

$180/treatment OR Full Package (10 treatments) for $1500

Kinesio® Taping

Kinesio® taping is an ideal therapy for everything from post-injury swelling, to stabilization for weak joints.  Kinesio® tape is unlike athletic tape, in that it has stretch and flex, which allows the body to continue to move with stabilization instead of restriction (depending on indication of use).  Kinesio® tape can also be used for issues, such as round ligament pain in pregnancy, lymphatic problems, PMS pain, headaches, whiplash and concussion, and many more.
